Neptune takes krill oil to US market

Canadian firm Neptune Technologies & Bioressources is to market its Neptune Krill Oil in the US. The product will be sold through the Vitamin World chain and distributed by NBTY's Nature's Bounty.

Canadian firm Neptune Technologies & Bioressources has entered the US market with its Neptune Krill Oil.

The product will be sold in the 650 Vitamin World stores and distributed by Nature's Bounty, owned by NBTY, the largest US manufacturer of nutritional Supplements.

Nature's Bounty is advertising the product as 'a superb source of the nutritionally important omega-3, 6, 9 fatty acids needed for heart protection and metabolic health'. The product is said to contain naturally occurring phospholipids and DHA for cellular health and brain function, and vitamin A for immune system health. It is also known to contain the carotenoid, astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant.

"Neptune Krill Oil has tremendous potential in the North Americanmarketplace, everybody is looking for something new and exciting and there isno doubt that you can find it in Neptune Krill Oil," said Dave Randle, vice-president of sales for theUSA at Neptune.

He added that the health benefits aresupported by rigorous clinical studies.

Neptune Technologies & Bioressources exploits marineBiomasses, such as krill and other underexploited marine resources like red crab and calanus. The company is industrializing its extraction process 'NeptuneOceanExtract' in order to offer its products to nutraceutical, cosmetic, cosmeceutical and biopharmaceutical markets.

Neptune claims that its natural biomass extraction willplay an important role in developing nutrigenomics, the next wave innutritional research.
