A nutritional energy bar, aimed at protecting prostate health in men, has been launched on the Internet market by Canadian company Food Nutrition.
The bar contains a combination of twenty ingredients, including saw palmetto, pygeum africanum, lycopene, vitamin E, selenium, zinc and soy isoflavones from SoyLife, a soy germ ingredient made by Acatris, as well as 14 other nutrients.
Research is beginning to show that nutritional supplements may play a role in promoting and maintaining a healthy prostate. Acatris claims that the product is an easy alternative to consuming a variety of dietary supplements.
The bar was created by Dr Jack Barkin, urologist and nutritional researcher for Food Nutrition. Barkin suggests that the equivalent delivery of nutrients in a Pros-Tect bar would require up to 20 tablets and capsules and cost upwards of $150 a month. In contrast, a one-month supply of Pros-Tect Men's Energy bars would be $49.94, only one-third the cost. Each bar delivers 20mg of soy isoflavones daily.
Acatris claims that most men do not understand the basic symptoms of poor prostatic health. Warning signs include frequent urination (especially at night), inability to urinate, trouble starting urination or holding back urination, pain during ejaculation, a weak or interrupted urine flow, pain or burning during urination, blood in the semen or urine, difficulties with erections or a pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips or upper thighs.
High-profile celebrity golfer Arnold Palmer is endorsing use of the product for men of various ages.
