NNFA event - industry squares up to challenge

The National Nutritional Foods Association reports back from its lobbying day last week, which demonstrated the industry's resistance to changes to DSHEA.

The National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA) said that its lobbying event last week effectively demonstrated the determination of the natural products industry to continue to provide safe and beneficial supplements to consumers.

Dietary supplement and natural product industry retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers from across the country took part in NNFA's 6th annual lobbying event, 'Natural Foods Day', on Tuesday, March 25.

Natural Foods Day was designed to broaden the natural products industry's base of political support and in particular, to highlight that adequate legislation and enforcement capabilities to regulate the industry already exist under DSHEA.

"This year's event was one of NNFA's most crucial lobbying efforts to date," said NNFA executive director and CEO David Seckman.

"With a variety of bills and issues in Congress threatening to change our industry, participants effectively faced the challenge of conveying to our nation's leaders the impact of these issues, and in particular, the importance of preserving DSHEA."
