An independent review has found an improvement in the quality of vitamin C products on the market.

ConsumerLab.com, which first reviewed vitamin C in 2000, said that all 15 products evaluated in recent tests passed the quality standards. The company's previous review of vitamin C products found several with less vitamin C than claimed and one product that would not dissolve.

Americans purchased more than $180 million worth of vitamin C supplements in the past year according to market research firms SPINS and ACNielsen.

Tod Cooperman, president of ConsumerLab.com, welcomed the results but noted however: "Preliminary results from other products now being tested suggest that this is not the beginning of a general upward trend in supplement quality."

ConsumerLab recently reviewed probiotic supplements and found that many products were missing the numbers of bacteria claimed by the labeling.

The 15 vitamin C products tested by ConsumerLab are listed on its website. All labeled ingredients and fillers for each product are also to be posted online.
