Protient offers soy protein isolate

Soy protein manufacturer Protient has started full-scale production of its new non-GMO soy protein isolate. The ingredient is designed for use in beverages and other functional foods.

Soy protein manufacturer Protient has announced that its soy protein isolate facility started full-scale production last month.

The facility is producing a non-GMO water-filtered soy protein isolate, which has not been chemically precipitated, resulting in an undenatured isolated protein product very low in sodium, according to the St Paul, Minnesota-based company.

The product is ideally suited for beverage applications due to its good solubility and bland flavor profile, claims Protient. The company added that the product does not have the typical beany and bitter notes found in other soy ingredients.

The ingredient is available in both the usual powder form and as a liquid concentrate for use in ready-to-drink beverage production. Protient added that its soy protein isolate allows formulators to eliminate masking agents and to reduce overall flavor costs. It can also provide a high-protein soy content to drinks which are lower in sugars and total carbohydrates than soymilk-based products.

Tom Yezzi, vice president of operations for Protient, said the addition of the soy protein isolate will strengthen the company's position as supplier of protein to the food industry.

The ingredient can also be added to nutrition bars, baked products, meat analogs, flaked and extruded products, and powdered beverages.
