Tea marketed as health beverage

Taking advantage of current research that has uncovered the powerful active ingredients in tea, such as polyphenols and flavonoids, both potent antioxidants, Honest Tea is launching an organic bottled tea.

Honest Tea, the leading US brand of organic bottled tea, has joined forces with the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), "to help get the word out to more Americans that tea is not just for sipping anymore".

The company is rolling out two new bottled teas, Peach Oo-la-long and Green Dragon Tea, both low in calories and rich in antioxidants. Green Dragon contains the highest amount of the cancer-fighting catechin, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), currently available in bottled tea in the US.

Recent studies supported by AICR show that drinking a few cups of green tea per day can help to prevent or even fight cancer. Honest Tea and AICR share the goal of educating more individuals about the benefits of tea and particularly green tea (as well as other cancer-fighting foods) through AICR's web link, www.aicr.org/greentea.

According to an analysis conducted by the New Use Agriculture and Natural Plant Products Program at Rutgers University, Honest Tea's new Green Dragon Tea contains 99.9 mg of EGCG per 16 oz compared to 7.6 mg per 20 oz found in SoBe Green Tea or 9.8 mg per 16 oz of Snapple Lime Green Tea. Overly processed beverages deplete the amount of the disease fighting catechins available in tea, while Honest Tea says that it uses only whole leaves and brews them in spring water before bottling.

Honest Tea is the leading brand of organic bottled tea growing 110% annually over the last five years. The company's brand of organic and natural teas in bottles and bags is refreshingly different than that of their competitors- unsweetened, lightly or a 'tad' sweetened, brewed with whole leaves and with more antioxidant benefits than other brands of tea.
