Targeting the alarming rise in obesity among America's kids, a nutritionist has developed a controversial diet pill for children aged 6-12 years old.

"My Skinny Pill for Kids is a safe solution to the very real risk to our children's physical, psychological and emotional health created by juvenile obesity," said Edita Kaye, author of the best-selling book, The Skinny Pill.

Kaye added: "All we ever hear is the same endless parade of experts telling our fat kids to turn off the TV, stop eating fast food and exercise. Let's get real. This is simply not going to happen in the average day-to-day life of America's kids and their families. Our kids, and their concerned parents, need a bold solution, and so I gave them one. Now America's kids have a diet pill, just like Mommy."

Kaye did not elaborate on the active ingredients in the pill, although the website maintains that the original Skinny Pill contains no artificial stimulants and no ephedra. It contains extract of green tea leaf, which has naturally occurring caffeine.

According to the Center for Disease Control, there are now over 5 million obese kids in America, and 15 per cent of children between the ages of 6 and 19 (double the number 20 years ago) are suffering an alarming rise in breathing disorders, gallbladder disease and adult onset diabetes.

"There's also the real torment of social fat endured by our kids," said Kaye. "The cruel teasing, isolation, and bullying suffered by obese kids hurts our children's psychological, emotional and even spiritual lives..."

The controversial nutritionist, who hosts her own radio talk show, is known for her Skinny AM-PM System, which recommends fat-blocking fiber-rich foods, fat-burning protein-rich foods and Skinny Pills.
