Nutrition technology company PacificHealth Laboratories said today it has signed an endorsement agreement with professional hockey player Anson Carter to promote the company's Accelerade sports drink.

Accelerade is already the official sports drink of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).

Carter is currently playing for the Edmonton Oilers and is in his sixth year in the NHL. Last season, Carter registered 28 goals and 32 assists in his second season with the Oilers. The native of Toronto, Ontario was selected in the 10th round of the draft by the Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche) in the 1992 entry draft.

"Accelerade plays a key role in helping me take my game to the next level by helping my body recover quickly, especially after back-to-back games," said Carter, in his glowing endorsement of the product.

Dr Robert Portman, president and CEO of PHLI, said: "We are seeing more professional athletes like Anson who clearly understand the benefits of drinking Accelerade during and after competition."

Accelerade is designed to rehydrate muscles and boost energy levels. It has a patented 4 to 1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein to speed the movement of carbohydrate into the muscle. Pacific Health claims the drink extends endurance by 24 per cent compared to a conventional sports drink and 57 per cent compared to water.
