Steady growth for Nutraceutical International

Third quarter sales at Nutraceutical International, the US supplement manufacturer, rose from $26.7 million to $29.5 million as a result of good organic growth and acquisitions, while profits were up from $2.0 million to $4.2 million, helped by a settlement from a price-fixing lawsuit.

For the first nine months of the year, net sales for were $81.6 million compared to $79.0 million in 2001, while net profits were $9.5 million compared to $5.1 million.

Bill Gay, Nutraceutical's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "The increases in sales and net income during the third quarter reflect market and operating improvements in our core branded business as well as contributions from our recently acquired neighbourhood natural food markets."

Nutraceutical supplies nutritional supplements to health and natural food stores across under the brand names Solaray, KAL, NaturalMax, VegLife, Premier One, Sunny Green, Natural Sport, ActiPet, Action Labs and Thompson. Its products are sold in the US and worldwide. It also produces bulk materials for use in its own products and for sale to other manufacturers and marketers in the nutritional supplement industry under the trade names Monarch Nutritional Laboratories and Great Basin Botanicals.
