A clinical trial featuring Menotab, the herbal formula produced by Himalaya USA, has shown that the product can help alleviate the symptoms of the menopause, good news for women in the light of recent revelations about the dangers relating to HRT.
Menotab, which is also known as MenoCare in the US, was the focus of a trial carried out by scientists at the Ramiah Medical College Hospital in Bangalore, India. The results of the trial are reported in the journal The Antiseptic.
The researchers treated 28 post-menopausal women with daily doses of Menotab for a period of three months. They discovered that the remedy helped reduce occurrences of hot flushes 96.2 per cent, night sweating by 100 per cent and insomnia by 71 per cent.
They also said that there were no discernible side-effects to the treatment, which they declared to be entirely safe.
"These results are especially welcome in the midst of the controversy surrounding hormone replacement therapies and their long term risks. It offers women a safe and effective alternative," said Dr Philip Duterme, president and chief executive officer of Himalaya USA.
"Scientific evidence of safety and efficacy of herbal remedies, along with manufacturing practices that ensure their consistency, are critical to alleviate women's concerns about their quality. Since 1930, Himalaya has been at the forefront of marketing true pharmaceutical grade products that are developed, tested and produced to pharmaceutical standards," Duterme added.
