First quarter sales at Health & Nutrition Systems, the producer of weight management products, fell by 29 per cent to $1.06 million (€1.14m), largely due to the fact that the previous year's first quarter saw the launch of the company's Acutrim Natural product.
Sales of Acutrim Natural in the first three months of 2002 were some 70 per cent lower than in 2001 at $195,513, although the company stressed that they were as expected for three months of 'ordinary' business.
Net profits from operations for the three months was $40,447, down slightly from $41,688 a year earlier.
Chris Tisi, CEO of Health & Nutrition Systems, remained bullish despite the decline : "We are encouraged by the results of implementing the company's strategic plan to diversify our product line by developing and promoting new products. Our cost reduction programme showed promising results during the first quarter and we hope to continue with the programme in the remainder of the year."HNS develops and markets weight management products in over 25,000 health, food and drug store locations in the US, as well as distributing its products to independent health food stores, gyms and pharmacies.
