Soup recall after allergen alert

ConAgra Grocery Products has recalled 36,000 cases of Healthy Choice Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup because the brand may contain whey, a known allergen which was not mentioned on the label.

ConAgra Grocery Products of California has recalled 36,000 cases of Healthy Choice Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup because the brand may contain whey, a known allergen which was not mentioned on the label.

Despite the name, the soup may in fact be Turkey with White & Wild Rice Soup, ConAgra said. The turkey soup contains whey, but this is normally clearly marked on the label.

The company said that consumers who have a severe sensitivity to whey could run the risk of experiencing an allergic reaction if they consumed the product, but stressed that the product was completely safe for those who do not have a sensitivity to whey.

The soups were distributed nationwide and internationally to 19 countries, including the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Only the 15-ounce size of Healthy Choice Old Fashioned Chicken Noodle Soup with the code 15EN and P91 on the second line is affected.

ConAgra stressed that there had been no reports of illness or allergic reaction related to the product, and said it was voluntarily recalling all the products after consultation with the US Department of Agriculture.
