The aroma of grapefruit mixed with black pepper and some plants produces a surprisingly strong slimming effect, according to claims by the Shisheido Cosmetics company.

The company claims it has established a direct link between scent and formation of one of the proteins which activates the process of breaking up fat in a human organism, thus aiding slimming.

It has produced a lotion with caffeine as one of the components which has a strong grapefruit aroma and scent of other plants. The lotion, it claims, can help break up fat.

Twenty women tried the lotion on the skin and within a month or so were shown to have lost weight. Shisheido experts declared that the women who took part in the experiment led a normal way of life without excess physical loads.

The Japanese company concluded that its grapefruit-caffeine lotion not only breaks up fat, but also prevents its accumulation. Shisheido intends to officially announce its new slimming recipe at a conference of the Japanese Pharmaceutical Society in March.

The company is planning to begin sales of its new aromatic slimming lotion in summer.
