A medical food product containing uncooked cornstarch could help type 2 diabetics manage their blood glucose levels and decrease the incidence of nighttime and morning hyperglycemia, new research suggests.

The study, conducted by researchers in Ventura, California., compared the blood glucose levels of individuals with type 2 diabetes at specific time intervals following the ingestion of an ExtendBar or placebo bar on three consecutive evenings. Study participants who ate the ExtendBar experienced no episodes of hyperglycemia and had significantly lower blood glucose levels at midnight and before breakfast the next morning than those who ate the placebo bar.
