After suffering from eating disorders for decades, Mona Rosene, global director of scientific affairs at Chromadex, said she turned her pain into purpose by becoming a dietician and science communicator.

“It always just intrigued me—the human body did, and to understand what is happening through nutrition, as well as how we metabolize nutrients in our food—because as dietitians, most of the time, we'll talk about what you eat and how what you eat impacts your health," Rosene said.

"But most people don't understand why, and when I started working at ChromaDex, we got deep into more of the biochemistry and the cellular function and that just enhanced my curiosity of just how food really impacts the cell and how just changing your diet a little bit can have better cellular health and obviously better foundational health."

Tru Niagen, a patented NAD+ supplement from ChromaDex, supports cellular health, recovery and vitality. While it is backed by two Nobel Prize winners, 30+ human clinical studies and 300+ published scientific studies, Rosen admits she is still trying to figure out the best approach to consumer education.

"I do wonder how to best communicate our niche product with regards to our category being in the NAD space because it's so niche," she said. "The biohacking community, they get it, [but] the general population, they're still trying to figure it out."

One thing Rosen said she wished she had figured out earlier in life is entering into a 12-step program and accepting that many things in life are out of her control.

"It was probably one of the scariest decisions I made because walking into the rooms of a recovery program is extremely frightening because you think that you're the only person going through that at that time and then when you actually have the courage to step [through] those doors, there are so many other people there that have been in the same shoes that you have," Rosen said.

"The first step is knowing that you're not in control. And if you can just even just understand that step, life will be so much easier, and you'll have so much more peace and serenity."
